Ride to Kotilingeshwara Temple
Kotilingeshwara Temple Kolar, Before telling about this temple i have to share my experience of visiting that place, How I reached that place?
Bangalore to Kotilingeshwara temple
So, as usual, I travel by my bike to any destination in Karnataka, I took My bike Bajaj Discover 150S to this place. It was a short ride though but it was fun. It was a Sunday so as not to worry about traffic, I left home at 7:45 AM but there was bit traffic till KR Puram, after that it was clean 2 to 3 lane roads.
I reached Kolar by 9:30 AM, yes I was a little slow because I was cruising at 80km/h. After Kolar, you have to take a diversion for KGF, from here road becomes small. Took a break for drinking sugarcane juice exactly after half km’s from the diversion. While having a sugarcane juice a guy came with his Hyosung gt650. You know that I love bikes so we had a conversation for a while about bikes and stuff. While talking I came to know that he was one of a member of GoldTown Bikers (Bangarpete). And he showed his group Admin with his blue Hayabusa while passing that road.
Well, that was it for the conversation, he was a good guy to talk with. Later he left that place like zooooommmmm and I continued my journey to Kotilingeshwara. I reached the temple by 10:30 AM. At the beginning, I thought temple would be crowded but it was not. Parking place was huge with few vehicles. I parked my bike and went inside the temple.
Kotilingeshwara is not too far from Bangalore, it is located in a small village called Kammasandra which is in KGF, Karnataka. The main attraction of this place is the huge Shivalinga measuring 108 ft, this shivalinga is the tallest one in the world. This Shivalinga is surrounded by lakhs of small shivalingas. The first Linga was installed in the year 1980 on October 10, From then on many more Lingas are being installed surrounding the temple, Currently, there are 90 lakhs lingas in this temple. Anyone can install shivalinga there by paying some amount of money per shivalinga, probably starts at 5,000 INR I guess, I’m not sure about the money but it will be not less than 5000 INR.
There are a few small temples inside this big temple. The first to be constructed is the Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Maheshwara temple and further sequence will be Lord Venkataramani Swamy Temple, Goddess Annapoorneshwari Temple, Lord Panduranga Swamy Temple, Lord Panchamukha Ganapathy temple, Lord Rama, Lakshmana and Sita Temple, Lord Anjaneya Temple, Goddess Kannika Parameshwari Temple, and Goddess Karumaari Amma Temple.
Well, this is the information I know about the temple and i recommend you to watch my video and photos so that you would get little more info about the temple. Best recommendation would be “Visit the temple”. It would be very good for a one day trip from Bangalore, practically half day is enough.
