One day Itinerary and travel
7:00 AM – We started our journey from KSRTC Bus terminal at Majestic. We boarded the Pavagada bus to reach Dabaspete. It is about 40 KM to Dabaspete and takes 1:30 hrs as we need to cross Bangalore city which takes quite some time.
Please note: Bangalore – Tumkur buses won’t stop at Dabaspete as they go on the flyover. So you need to take a bus which is going via Dabaspete, Like Pavagada and Madhugiri.
8:15 AM – We reached Dabaspete and took a local cab to reach Shivagange hills which is 7 KM. Local cab charged 15 rupees per head.
9:00 AM – First stage of the Shivagange hill is to visit the temple. Yes, we first visited the temple which is the beginning of this trek. Took blessings from god and continued. There are many temples, statues and structures along the way. Trek is roughly 2 Km and takes about 2 hours. This is one of the easiest treks for anyone, we saw people of 80+ climbing this hill. The Hill has man-made steps which will even make our trek easier. For safety, there are iron railing as well.
In between, there are few food stalls so need not to worry about tiredness. Water, biscuits, snacks available at these food stalls. Also, we suggest not to carry any food as the monkeys would snatch it. More ever please do not throw any kind of plastic or garbage in the hill.
11:00 AM – We reached the top hill. First, we see is the sacred bull carved out of a monolithic stone, the statue of Nandi. This is the topmost part of the hill. Believe me, you feel so amazing after reaching this point. You can see the whole view, if you come early morning then you can even witness clouds under you which almost look like a cotton bed. We spent some good time here taking photos and taking fresh air.
12:00 PM – We started descending the hill at 12 PM and reached foothill at 2 PM. Local cabs were available there, we reached Dabaspete and from there to Bangalore.
Places to see in Shivagange Hills
Olakal Teertha is popularly known in this place. There is a small hole inside the temple, we need to put our hand inside the hole to get water. The hole, rock and water are all together known as Olakal Teertha. People believe that if that person finds water then he/she has done good deeds or else not. I don’t know how far it is true, but water is very deep and we have to put the complete hand inside the hole to get water. Few people don’t take much effort in putting their hands and say we did not get water and we have not done good deeds.
Gavi means cave in Kannada, as the temple is in the cave it is known as Gavigangadhareshwara. Also, people said the cave inside is connected to another temple in Bangalore. Earlier I was talking about ghee turns to butter, that will happen here.
As the name says patala which means underground. The water that arises from the underground of the hill is called the Patalagange. It is said the water which flows here is connected to Antargange in Kolar. One has to descend one by one to reach the water.
The sacred bull carved out of a monolithic stone, the statue of Nandi. It is at the top hill and the highest point as well.
