Bangalore to Dharmasthala via Shirada Ghat on Bike
Bangalore to Dharmasthala via Shiradi Ghat was my dream ride since a long time, finally happened 🙂 And Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala is always my best place to visit anytime.
Planning n Preparation for riding 600+ kms. How actually I prepared?
To know in detail about planning then i would recommend reading the article “How to plan for a long ride”
This is first and most important thing we have to do when we want to ride 500+ kms. How I actually prepared? This was my longest solo ride so far, so had to plan properly.
First thing Time Management is very important, so plan that properly. My time management plan was like this. First calculated average speed of my bike. According to that I decided starting n ending trip. Usually with the crusing speed of 80km/h you can take average as 60km/h. Bangalore to dharmasthala distance is 310kms, so taking average of 60km/h I would take close to 5:30hrs. In that breaks are very important. Considering everything it will take 6 to 6:30hrs max to reach destination. And yes I did it, u will see complete way how I managed the time.
Next big thing is carry food and water. Food in the sense any kind of snacks. I usually carry biscuits. Because if u r tired glucose biscuits will help a lot. And yes carry atleast 500ml of water.
Don’t forget to carry puncture kit, it will be easily helpful in case of puncture. But i did not have one so could not carry! But please try to buy one and carry.
These plans and preparations I follow every time when I’m going for solo rides, usually you can’t follow timings in group ride, but still it depends on understanding.
Bangalore to Dharmasthala route
I took regular route which is Bengaluru -> Hassan -> Sakleshpur -> Shiradi Ghat -> Dharmasthala
Starting ride n reaching destination.
On June 7th exactly at 5:00AM I left home. At this time I had lot of energy n confident, so I planned to cruise for 3 digit distance without break. Weather was cool and roads were empty. I hit the NH75 at 5:30AM and started to cruise at 80km/h. Road was butter smooth, i wish i would have had Pulsar AS200! But no prob still i had a better tourer. cruised continues for 156kms n told break after chennarayapatna. I took 2:15hrs to cover 156kms by cruising at 80km/h. This was a good catch up of time, I was not running behind time till now but actually I was bit early. My plan was to reach chennarayapatna at 7:30AM but I reached 15min early, it’s just a small advantage. Had breakfast here and left by 7:30AM.
Continued cruising through Hassan and Sakleshpur without any break. After 10kms from Sakleshpur bit of rain attacked me! It was drizzling and yes I enjoyed riding in that. But after few more kms started raining more, so I thought of stopping somewhere but couldn’t find any shelter. At the same time I saw a small live accident, a bullet was rolling in road n found 2 guys chasing it! I have captured video of that pls do watch.
Then rain stopped in few minutes so I continues riding. After rain I couldn’t ride more than 60km/h as road was constructed in cement and it was too slippery on wet surface. By this time I was in shiradi ghat. As per plan I wanted to reach shiradi ghat by 9:00AM and yes I did it. After seeing beautiful weather n scenery I took few breaks here n there to relax. At some point roads were filled with fog. Those moments I can’t explain, but I can show you.
Finally i reached Dharmasthala at 11:00AM, parked my bike near temple and kept my bag in luggage room. Started my que at 11:30AM. After an hour i got to know sunday was no moon day so today(Monday) there is a special pooja, this is the reason for crowd. But what ever it is i came at good day.
For continuous 4hrs i was slowly moving in a que, my back was paining a bit and legs as well. Finally went inside temple at 3:30PM. My soul was happy at this moment. Had lunch(Prasada) at 4:00PM and came out at 4:30PM. My back n legs were paining a lot which made me lose confident on reaching home. But still i tried, 4:40PM i left Dharmasthala and reached BM road by 5:15PM. Found small hotel there and had coffee. This was the magic drink for me! My energy boosted and gained confident to reach home. 5:30PM i left the hotel with full confident. Stopped somewhere in the middle of shiradi ghat to relax for a moment n then left. Reached sakleshpur at 6:45PM. From here i have a different story! please continue reading below.
After leaving Sakleshpur i got to know that my bike headlight is too bad! Again i lost complete confident! Nothing i could do at that time, I just rode at 40km/h till Hassan. By the time i reached Hassan it was 8:00PM. That means 42kms in 75min!! In Hassan i stopped at hotel n finished dinner. Left Hassan at 8:30PM. From here it was double lane road. Increased my speed to 70km/h. I was following other vehicles! Just imagine how much difficulties i faced because of bad headlight! took 5 mins break for every 1 hr and finally reached Home at 11:30PM.
Bangalore to Mantralayam and back which was my longest ride
